CydandClaude Opus 4.8 e446781953 PPC scramble: animate it as a collapse -> hold-roll+shake -> recover -> lock
Reworks the flat per-row shear into the authentic sync-loss-and-relock
transition the playtesters described, on both render paths (surround
DrawDevSurface + glass ExpandPlaneToBGRA, native + rotated radar):

  1. COLLAPSE -- the image squeezes to a thin centred vertical line.
  2. HOLD (~0.8s, the window the card held the detuned CRTC) -- the line's
     content scrolls WILDLY fast and decelerates, plus a violent per-frame
     SHAKE (LCG jitter: vertical row bounce + horizontal scroll jitter).
  3. RECOVERY (~0.5s) -- the line broadens back to full while the scroll,
     tear and shake settle to zero.
  4. LOCK -- clean full display.

Mechanism: FunkyVideo(on, dur) records start+hold; ScrambleParams is a
two-phase envelope (hold: deep collapse + decelerating scroll = integral of
v(t)=rollMax*(1-t/hold); recovery: smoothstep broaden + settle).  The read
loops map the source through it -- `scale` sets a black-bordered collapse
band, `rollOff` SCROLLS (wraps) within it, `shear` is a per-row diagonal,
`shakeRow` bounces the source row.  The SVGA16 owns the full hold+recovery
clock, so FunkyVideo(False) is a no-op (the card restoring sync is where the
recovery begins) -- the recovery isn't cut off when the 0.8s latch clears.

Tunable by eye (pod-monitor PLL look isn't recoverable from the binary):
BT_SCRAMBLE_COLLAPSE (0.03), _ROLL (9000 px/s), _SHAKE (10 px), _SHEAR (3),
_DUR (hold), _RECOVER (0.5s).  BT_SCRAMBLE_TEST loops the transition for
tuning; BT_SCRAMBLE_CYCLE loops it stepping the roll speed.

Verified: Release links clean; surround loops the effect at slowed + true
full speed, all secondaries + radar collapse/roll/shake/recover together,
main view clean, no crash.  SHIPPING with these defaults for playtester
feedback.

CydandClaude Opus 4.8 2e46c3fb1c PPC hit scrambles the secondary displays (phase-14, all three work items)
Restores the PPC's authentic secondary-display effect: an EnergyDamageType hit
scrambles every secondary cockpit display for 0.8s while the main out-the-window
view stays clean.  Was fully specced (phase-14) with the engine half already
present under the original VWE names; only the trigger and the visual were
missing (the visual STUBBED since 2007).

A -- TRIGGER (game/reconstructed/mech.cpp): in TakeDamageMessageHandler, at the
  binary's @0x4a03f3 position (after the cylinder resolve, before the burst
  loop, so ONCE per damage message) fire
  GetGaugeRenderer()->SpecialEffect(scrambleVideo, damageType*0.2f) on
  EnergyDamageType (==4).  That type is authored on exactly the 14 PPC/ERPPC
  records, so the branch is structurally PPC-exclusive -- no weapon-class check.
  Duration DERIVED from the ordinal (4*0.2==0.8s), not a literal.  BT_DMG_LOG
  prints [ppc-scramble].

B -- VISUAL (SVGA16::FunkyVideo, was the 2007 stub): FunkyVideo now arms
  scrambleActive; new SVGA16::ScrambleRowShift is a per-source-row horizontal
  shear+roll, read by BOTH DrawDevSurface (surround/dock) and ExpandPlaneToBGRA
  (glass windows, native + rotated radar), so all secondary surfaces shear
  together in source space and the main 3D view (separate timing chain) is
  untouched -- the modern stand-in for the VGA CRTC Horizontal-Total detune.
  Tunable: BT_SCRAMBLE_SHEAR (px/line, def 4), BT_SCRAMBLE_ROLL (px/sec, def
  220); BT_SCRAMBLE_TEST=1 forces it on for tuning by eye.

C -- NON-STACKING LATCH (L4GaugeRenderer::SpecialEffect): ignore the re-arm while
  scrambleVideoFlag is set (matches the binary's `modified` latch) -- a second
  PPC during the window no longer extends it.  Was a divergence.

Verified: Release links clean; surround boots + runs with the effect forced on,
every secondary MFD + the radar shear while the out-the-window view stays clean,
no crash (screenshot).  Open (for the playtesters who filed the report): live
PPC-fire confirmation + by-eye shear tuning -- k/roll are not recoverable from
the binary.

Joe DiPrimaandClaude Opus 5 654277bb7b pod: freeze the ALPHA-MR rig in environ.ini (BT_FIT, L4PLASMA=NONE)
The cart's display config was carried by a launcher .bat, so it only came up
right if the game was started one particular way.  Move it into the file the
engine already reads before anything touches the environment.

  content/environ.ini  <- scratchpad/pod/podprofile.ini, merged idempotently
                          between markers by scratchpad/pod/mergeprofile.ps1

Two gates were missing for that to be enough:

  BT_FIT=1      the env spelling of -fit, so the borderless main view does not
                depend on one launcher's command line (shortcut, scheduled
                task and autostart all have to produce the same rig)
  L4PLASMA=     NONE / OFF / 0 -> no marquee at all.  Leaving it unset does
                NOT work: the GLASS profile force-defaults it to SCREEN, which
                drops a desktop plasma window on the cab's glass.  The boot
                banner now reports the live state instead of always claiming
                "plasma window".

Also lands the bring-up engine work this depended on: monitor:<name|index>
layout binding (device-bound, not pixel-bound -- desktop rects move when a
display re-enumerates), ",bare" implying frameless, rotation-aware radar
surface sizing, BT_GAUGE_SEC_ROT accepting 0-3 (it silently forced 3 for
anything but 1), 180-degree ExpandPlaneToBGRA, and the BT_POD_CHANMAP /
BT_POD_IDENT / BT_POD_CHANTEST identification gates.

Verified on the cart, build 4.11.813, launcher carrying none of it:
  [boot] environ.ini: 9 setting(s) applied
  [boot] platform profile: GLASS (PadRIO; plasma off [L4PLASMA])
  [cockpit] -fit: borderless 800x600
  [glasswin] radar rotation 0 (none)
  ... all three surfaces on their intended \.\DISPLAYn
No [plasmawin] line in an otherwise-logging run = the ctor never ran.

KB: pod-hardware.md gains the ALPHA-MR section (mapping, the two wiring
deviations, the frozen profile, the session-0 remote-work traps) and its RGB
SPLIT "OPEN: which way is the cart wired" is now SETTLED -- it is splitter
wired, the composite is what lit it.  glass-cockpit.md documents monitor:
binding, BT_FIT and L4PLASMA=NONE.

CydandClaude Fable 5 db9ac947f7 Displays: on-screen cockpit buttons + desktop plasma + the glass preset (steps 2d/2e)
NEW gated TUs: L4PADPANEL (GDI top-level window, all-W APIs: the pod button
banks -- upper/lower aux, 12 secondary, specials/hat/handle, 63 buttons --
clickable via PadRIO::SetScreenButton with lamp-lit faces from GetLampState,
10 Hz repaint; created by the PadRIO ctor on BT_PAD_PANEL=1) and L4PLASMAWIN
(PlasmaWindow : Video8BitBuffered -- the gauge renderer draws the 128x32
plasma into its pixelBuffer through the SAME code path as the serial device;
Update() blits orange-on-black at L4PLASMASCALE, default x4).  Gated seams:
L4GREND.cpp L4PLASMA=SCREEN branch; btl4main.cpp -platform glass preset
(PAD,KEYBOARD + BT_DEV_GAUGES + SCREEN plasma + panel; env always overrides;
non-glass builds log+fall back to DEV); run.cmd glass token.  MFD surfaces
need NO new code: the existing dock-bottom / BT_DEV_GAUGES_WINDOW=1 /
BT_DEV_GAUGES_DOCK=1 modes are the display story.

Verified live: -platform glass boots GLASS profile, panel + plasma windows
up, pad detected, dev gauges awake, mission loop clean.

arcattackandClaude Fable 5 dd27238ceb Gauges: the CLOSEOUT wave -- radar pips, Myomers dedup, attribute parity, ledger sweep (tasks #14-#17)
TASK #17 -- AUTHENTIC RADAR SYMBOLOGY (the cross-blip stand-in retired).
The recon proved the 'missing pip raster set' never existed as BT game code:
pips are the ENGINE's L4GaugeImage vector-stroke system (T0 source in tree,
L4GAUIMA.cpp == FUN_0046f0c0 line-for-line), the 'pip table' is L4Warehouse::
gaugeImageBin keyed by Entity::resourceID, and BTL4.RES ships 110 type-0x12
shapes (every mech/vehicle/building/tree).  The six btl4rdr stubs are wired
to the real facilities: contacts draw their authentic model silhouettes with
LOD selection, the target gets the binary's 4px-inflated box highlight, and
player-name labels resolve via Mission::GetSmallNameBitmap (the prebuilt
64x16 egg rasters keyed by the player's bitmapindex).  DECODED: the invented
'VideoObject' was Entity::owningPlayer all along (+0x190; nameID =
playerBitmapIndex@0x1E0, target = BTPlayer::objectiveMech@0x284 -- new
bridge BTPlayerObjectiveMechOf); the 'LabelledEntity' class is Landmark
(cultural.h; label path dormant -- no landmark content ships, no runtime
landmarkID writer).  The L4GREND BT_DEV_GAUGES warehouse guard is removed
(its AV had a different culprit, below); resource type 18 corrected to
GaugeImageStream in decomp-reference (was mislabeled 'ModelList').

TASK #14 -- the Myomers ODR duplicate ELIMINATED: the powersub.cpp/hpp
'Myomers' (classID 0xBC3 -- actually Sensor) is retired whole; it duplicated
?DefaultData@Myomers@@ against the real class (dumpbin-verified) and /FORCE
picked the winner by link order.  The real Myomers (0xBC6) now chains
PoweredSubsystem's handler set (ids 4-8) and publishes its SEVEN binary
attributes (@00511588: SpeedEffect/Current/Recommended/Min/MaxSeekVoltage-
Index/SeekVoltage/OutputVoltage) -- the old empty unchained index starved
the Myomer engineering panel of every resolve.

TASK #16 -- attribute parity: MechWeapon publishes the FULL binary table
@0x511890 (11 entries; ids renumbered to binary truth -- the port aliases
had squatted the binary's DistanceToTarget/TargetWithinRange ids; the
streamed TriggerState 0x13 binding unchanged).  Binary names resolved two
TODO members: pipState -> estimatedReadyTime (attr 0x1A), and the EXT-model
flag is the binary's RearFiring (0x1B).  ThermalSight LightState published.
HUD (offset conflicts) + missile-side tables (id encoding suspect)
documented for a re-dump instead of publishing blind.
  THE CRASH THIS EXPOSED [T2, cdb-verified]: gotcha #11's dense-table gap
is a LATENT AV, not a guaranteed one -- the old table's 0x0D..0x12 gap
(task #5) survived on heap luck; the renumber reshuffled allocations and
Find() AV'd on a garbage entryName in WeaponCluster's PercentDone resolve.
Fixed with five named PAD entries (the mech.cpp attrPad idiom) + a
static_assert locking the pad base to PoweredSubsystem::NextAttributeID.
Gotcha #11 amended with the proof.

TASK #15 -- stale-ledger sweep: GAUGE_COMPOSITE ('composite not yet built',
Reservoir shadow, PlayerStatus/vehicleSubSystems 'remaining', valve-dormant-
until-0xBD3, sensor guard, the superseded 'Heat MFD near-static' reframe --
all banner-corrected), gauges-hud frontmatter, L4VB16 + powersub comments.

Verified live: 50/50 config attribute bindings resolve, 0 NULLs, 0 parse
skips, mech spawns and simulates 31/31 subsystems, no cross-blip fallbacks,
the pip cache fills through entity registration without the old guard.

arcattackandClaude Opus 4.8 c13e72d0ba platform profile + gauge dev-composite (Milestone A: gauge renderer woken)
PLATFORM PROFILE (-platform pod|dev / BT_PLATFORM / run.cmd pod; default dev):
an env-preset selector, NOT a code fork -- it picks which environment the
existing video/gauge/input code reads.  dev = single 800x600 window + keyboard
(the working build); pod = RIO input + (on real hardware) the multi-surface
gauges/MFDs, mirroring content/SETENV.BAT (the pod path -- FindBestAdapterIndices
/ SVGA16 -- is left untouched).  The multi-surface needs the pod's 2 video cards,
so -platform pod does NOT auto-enable L4GAUGE on a dev box (stays bootable,
single-window).  Also fixes a real engine bug: SVGA16::BuildWindows
PostQuitMessage'd on a CreateDevice failure but fell through to a null-device
deref (segfault) -- now breaks (inert on the pod).

GAUGE DEV-COMPOSITE, Milestone A (option B; opt-in BT_DEV_GAUGES, default OFF):
wake the (dormant) gauge renderer so its CPU-rastered pixelBuffer can later be
composited into the dev window, WITHOUT touching the pod SVGA16 output path.
SVGA16 does no per-surface D3D in this mode (a DevGaugeComposite() gate forces
the no-surface path + short-circuits Update/Refresh).  Waking the never-exercised
gauge subsystem exposed 4 latent reconstruction bugs, each guarded:
SVGA16::Update / Refresh (empty mSurfaces[]), LBE4ControlsManager::MakeLinkedLamp
(NULL lamp manager), L4GaugeRenderer::NotifyOfNewInterestingEntity (garbage
warehouse chain).  It now boots STABLY; the gauge reconstruction is incomplete
(shadowed lamp-manager + warehouse members) -- Milestone B (the composite pass)
will reveal whether the content is real.  See docs/GAUGE_COMPOSITE.md.

Verified: default DEV un-regressed (combat DESTROYED, 0 crashes); pod path
untouched; BT_DEV_GAUGES boots stable.

arcattackandClaude Opus 4.8 7b7d465e5e Initial commit: bt411 -- standalone Windows BattleTech (Tesla 4.10 port)
Clean, self-contained extraction of the BattleTech-specific work from the
reverse-engineering workspace -- engine + game + content + build, with nothing
from Red Planet or the raw archive dumps. Builds green (Win32) and runs the
single-player drive->animate->target->fire->damage->destroy loop out of the box.

Layout:
  engine/   MUNGA + MUNGA_L4 shared 2007 engine, carrying our BT render/loader
            work (bgfload/L4D3D/L4VIDEO: BSL bit-slice decode, LOD/ground/shadow
            models) + image codec; the minimal rp/ headers the audio HAL needs
  game/     reconstructed BT logic + surviving-original BT source + fwd shims
            + WinMain launcher
  content/  full runtime tree (BTL4.RES, VIDEO/, GAUGE/, AUDIO/, eggs, BTDPL.INI)
  docs/     format specs + reconstruction ledgers
  reference/ raw Ghidra pseudocode (recon source-of-truth) + decomp exporter
  tools/    MP console emulator + map/resource scanners

One top-level CMake builds munga_engine lib + bt410_l4 game lib + btl4.exe.
All paths relativized (186 fwd shims + ~437 CMake abs paths -> repo-relative);
DXSDK is the one external, overridable via -DDXSDK. Verified: builds to a
byte-identical 2.27MB exe and runs combat (TARGET DESTROYED, 0 crashes) against
the bundled content.
