#97: leak gauge reaches all THREE levels -- the normalisation was dropped with an x87 expression
Players: "you can get up to three traingles which drains really quickly" ...
"only seeing one level (lowest) right now" (Oracle), corroborated by Draco
("3 triple delta being the top level").
The display was never the problem: BitMapInverseWipe is already built with
frames=3 and stacks three segments at two levels each (0..6). The LEVEL
computation was wrong.
Our Execute rounded the raw leak rate:
level = round(value)
The binary's @004c5d08 does NOT. Ghidra renders the round as a bare
`FUN_004dcd94()` because it drops the x87 expression feeding __ftol -- exactly
KB gotcha 19, which we already had written down. The real prologue, disassembled:
fild dword ptr [ebp-0x14] ; ST0 = (float)fullWidth (frames*2 = 6)
fmul dword ptr [ebx+0xb4] ; ST0 *= value (CoolantMassLeakRate)
fdiv dword ptr [ebx+0xb0] ; ST0 /= third (full-scale divisor)
call 0x4dcd94 ; level = round(ST0)
i.e. level = round(fullWidth * leakRate / fullScale).
Without the normalisation the gauge rounded a value that never exceeds ~1.0
(coolantDraw = zoneDamage * heatLoad, and heatLoad is clamp(0.002*T, 0, 1) --
constants re-verified from the image, including the 80-bit extended 0.002). So
level could only ever be 0, or 1 via the >0.0025 floor: ONE triangle, always, no
matter how bad the leak. Three of the six condensers being mis-lamped (#98) hid
how systematic this was.
Also corrected on the way:
* `third` was declared int but the binary FDIVs it -- it is a float. The two
call sites passed *(int *)(subsystem+0x150), i.e. the BIT PATTERN of a float
read from a RAW OFFSET into our own layout (the databinding trap): at +0x150
our layout has filterDecay, not the binary's field. Now resolved through a
complete-type bridge, BTHeatSinkLeakFullScale.
* filterDecay was initialised 0.4f; @004b8fec writes 0.15f (param_1[0x54] =
0x3e19999a). It is written-once-never-read elsewhere in the port, so the
correction is behaviourally safe and it IS the gauge's full scale.
Verified live: Condenser6 at 10% zone damage -> draw 0.0358 -> level 1 (one
triangle); the same formula reaches all three at heavier damage, and the mapping
spans draw 0.0026 (half of one) to 0.15 (three full).

four ENG-page lamps were invisible, not missing: the ctors dropped their colour parameters
Playtest report: "generators don't seem to have an Auto setting" / "no auto mode is ever displayed", plus the operator's own memory that the BUS MODE button once stepped through three states. The state machine was NEVER wrong: @004b0abc has exactly two branches (<2 -> Auto(2); ==2 -> detach + Off(0)), Manual(1) is set only by the four SelectGenerator buttons, and the auto-hunt gates on ==2 -- all byte-verified, and the #62 re-attach fires live. Manual is a one-way door out of BUS MODE by design: a single cycle button cannot know WHICH generator manual should mean. Verified on-screen by the operator this session: A-D returns to manual, BUS MODE toggles auto/off thereafter. What was actually broken: the connect-mode lamp -- and three siblings -- never drew a pixel. OneOfSeveralStates (@004c5470) and OneOfSeveralInt (@004c5148) forward caller-supplied background/foreground colours in the binary; the recon dropped both parameters and hardcoded 0,0 into the base. A BitMap-strip lamp draws SetColor(bg) + DrawBitMapOpaque(fg,...), so 0/0 painted colour-0 on colour-0: invisible. Affected: btemode (connect mode, 1x3 -- THE report), btecmode (coolant on/off, 1x2), and both bteseek gear-step lamps (1x4). The cluster call sites pass 0xff/0, byte-verified (@004c866c disasm; part_014.c:1479-1481, :2146-2147). Same dropped-element family as issue #42's MoveToAbsolute. THE TRAP THAT WAS NOT LANDED, recorded so it stays unlanded: with the lamp first made visible, the frames appeared inverted against the levels (art reads AUTO/MANUAL/OFF top-down; levels run OFF/MANUAL/AUTO), and a row=(rows-1)-selected "fix" was proposed. An adversarial workflow proved it wrong: the gauge blit addresses SOURCE rows BOTTOM-UP (Video16BitBuffered::DrawBitMapOpaque, L4VB16.cpp:3846-3850 -- sTop = map_max_y - sTop, rows walked upward), the 1995 blit @0046bdfc performs the identical flip, and the vertical strips are AUTHORED bottom-up to match. Identity level->row therefore draws the pod-correct display; the inversion would have created the very bug it claimed to cure. Two of five investigators (and the first human pass) assumed top-down; the engine source overruled all three. Convention + warning now recorded in context/gauges-hud.md. btecmode doubles as the standing tripwire: a second vertical strip that must show ON when coolant is available -- if it ever reads inverted, the bottom-up verdict is falsified. Also corrected: @004c552c is OneOfSeveralStates' EXECUTE override (clamp >= 0, chain the base draw) -- the port had the body on BecameActive under a wrong label; vtable-diffed against OneOfSeveral (0x518b24 vs 0x518bf0). BecameActive is inherited. Behaviorally inert today (the state source never goes negative), byte-faithful now. README: the "KNOWN ISSUE -- automatic re-attach is not working yet" text is replaced with how power routing actually works (A-D = manual, BUS MODE = auto then off, two presses off / one back to auto). That text shipped in 600, which already contained the #62 fix -- players were being TOLD auto was broken while it worked, which is half of how a painted-out lamp became "no auto mode". Diagnostic kept: BT_GENSEL_TEST=<id> now drives any of the five power-routing message ids (4..8, default 7) and pulses four times, so the whole mode cycle is observable headlessly under BT_FIRE_LOG ([gensel] lines). Gitea #47 COMPLETE: the ENG-button attention FLASH is live (jam / bay fire) -- MechTech status scan + BTL4GaugeAlarmManager + lamp chain, all from the binary
The pod behaviour Cyd described -- "on a jam or bay fire the display eng button
for the system flashes" -- is authored data + a five-stage chain, now running:
MechTech::TechnicalAssistance (@004ad33c, per frame)
edge-scans every monitored subsystem's GetStatusFlags() 7-bit condition
mask (TechStatusType: Destroyed 0, Damaged 1, CoolantLeaking 2,
Overheating 3, AmmoBurning 4, Jammed 5, BadPower 6)
-> Start/StopEntityAlarmMessage (@00436688 id 7 size 0x20 / @004366b8 id 8
size 0x1C; broadcast @004364e4; port shape: direct
Start/StopEntityAlarmImplementation calls on the gauge renderer)
-> GaugeAlarmManager::Activate(alarmModel) -- alarmModel = MechTech+0x100 =
the 'mechalrm' ModelList (id 83) -> SearchList(83, type 31) -> the baked
GaugeAlarmStream (id 331, 11 items {condition, lampCode}), decoded:
Destroyed -> gotoEngineering + engCooling + engBusMode
CoolantLeaking -> gotoEngineering + engCooling
AmmoBurning -> gotoEngineering + engEject
Jammed -> gotoEngineering + engEject
BadPower -> gotoEngineering + engBusMode
-> BTL4GaugeAlarmManager::ReadGaugeAlarmStreamItem -- THE REAL BODY, from
@004cc2fc + helpers @004cc108/148/1a0/264/27c + tables @0051cf1c..0x51d084

lamp[aux]/mode[aux] tables; 0x81+ descend the eng-page bank; Condenser /
Generator specials on CoolantLeaking; <0x80 = the heat-bank fixed map).
btl4galm.cpp's old bodies were admitted fabrications and its provenance
note ("no override body exists in the image") was wrong -- corrected.
-> LampManager::FindLamp (@00444c80) -> Lamp::SetAlertState (@00444e64, a
COUNTER so stacked alarms hold the flash) -> L4Lamp::NotifyOfStateChange
emits RIO flashFast states 0x37/0x13 (== T0 L4LAMP.cpp:234-239) -> the
pod's physical lamps AND the glass panels (PadRIO IS rioPointer there).
FOUR load-bearing defects found and fixed en route -- each independently fatal
to the feature:
1. HeatableSubsystem's Derivation chained Subsystem directly, SKIPPING
MechSubsystem (written before the WAVE-1 re-basing) -- so EVERY subsystem
on both family branches failed IsDerivedFrom(MechSubsystem), which is
exactly MechTech's monitor filter: the status scan watched NOTHING.
2. MechSubsystem::GetStatusFlags was non-virtual (binary: vtable slot 12) --
the scan's MechSubsystem* call bound statically to the base tier and the
weapon bits could never surface.
3. ProjectileWeapon::GetStatusFlags sat in a Ghidra export gap -- raw-disasm
@004bbf88: base | 0x20 (weaponAlarm==5 Jammed) | 0x10 (linked bin
cookOffArmed@0x18C AmmoBurning). The port had "defer to base".
4. Mech::Reset's respawn sweep blanket-cast every roster entry to
MechSubsystem and called RespawnRepair -- wrong for the Subsystem-level
entries (MechTech 0xBDC, SubsystemMessageManager 0xBD3). On MechTech the
recon damageZone slot lands on its subsystemMonitors chain head: NULL
while the scan was broken (fix #1's bug MASKED this one), but the moment
the monitors populated, RespawnRepair virtual-called through a
SubsystemMonitor as if it were a DamageZone -> load-time crash in
StateIndicator::SetState (caught with cdb; call [edx+14h] on code bytes).
The sweep now filters IsDerivedFrom(MechSubsystem) before the cast.
Also: GUID identities pinned -- 0x50f4bc = PoweredSubsystem::ClassDerivations
(via @004b1208 = its TestInstance; btl4gau2's two "Generator" comments were
wrong, swept), 0x50fb60 = Generator's. A shadow-field instance documented for
the deferred de-shadow: MechSubsystem::damageZone re-declares the PUBLIC engine
Subsystem::damageZone (SUBSYSTM.h:159) -- mechtech's naive `sub->damageZone`
read the never-written engine member (0 monitors again); now reads the recon
member via GetDamageZoneProxy(). Logged in open-questions.
Wiring: BTL4GaugeRenderer now constructs + assigns the BTL4GaugeAlarmManager
(the base ctor NULLs it and Activate Check()s it); MechTech's Report*/
StatusMessageSink stubs are real; alarmModel confirmed baked (= 83) at runtime.
VERIFIED LIVE (scratchpad/lampflash.py, BT_LAMP_LOG chain trace):
[techstat] MechTech id 32 monitors 29 subsystems, alarmModel 83

Gitea #46: ammo bay fire now DETONATES and KILLS (+ #47 fire icon) -- three stacked kill-switches removed, the fuse decoded, and a vptr-alias corruption caught by regression
Field report (night 3): "two ammo bay fires and no death" (Cyd + RajelAran; one
purged, one left burning). Root cause = THREE independent kill-switches stacked
on the same path, all in ammobin.cpp:
1. `GameClock::Now() { return 0; }` -- `cookOffTime < Now()` was `0 < 0`, so
an ARMED bay fire never detonated.
2. `InjectHeat(void*) {}` -- the detonation body was a no-op.
3. The bin's Damage record was never stamped -- 0 damage of type 0 (which the
mech TakeDamage handler drops) even if 1+2 had fired.
THE FUSE (raw disasm, scratchpad/disammo.py): the old "RandomDelay" was a Ghidra
carve artifact -- FUN_004dcd94 is __ftol and the export DROPPED the caller's x87
expression. The real bytes @004bd450: fld 10.0 / fmul [ticksPerSecond] /
fadd 0.5 / __ftol -- a FIXED 10.0-SECOND fuse in clock ticks. New gotcha #19
(reconstruction-gotchas.md) documents the __ftol export blind spot.
THE DAMAGE RECORD: bin+0x1F0..0x21C is a real engine `Damage` (FUN_0041db7c IS
Damage::Damage(), byte-matched to T0 DAMAGE.cpp). The linked ProjectileWeapon's
ctor @004bc3fc stamps it from weapon->damageData @0x3A8 via
owner->roster[0x128][res+0x1C0] -- projweap.cpp's old comment called this "the
bin's HUD display block ... wired in the AmmoBin family"; both halves were wrong
and it was wired nowhere. Now stamped (before MissileLauncher's ctor divides by
missileCount -- a missile bin authentically holds the per-SALVO amount).
THE DETONATION (@004ac274 = MechSubsystem::DistributeCriticalHit -- the old
"HeatableSubsystem::InjectHeat" label was wrong, and the old reconstruction
iterated a stand-in CriticalChain whose First()/Next() returned 0):
statusAlarm pulse Exploding(2)->Destroyed(1) (slot 13 = the printSimulationState
state PRINT @004ac8c0, not an "explosion notify"), own private zone pinned
destroyed, then collect the mech DamageZones whose crit entries plug the bin
(the binary filters plug classID 0x4E = DamageZoneClassID -- VDATA.h idx 78,
cross-checked via idx 28 = AudioStateTrigger), split the amount evenly, and send
the OWNER one full Entity::TakeDamageMessage per zone: inflictingEntity = SELF,
damageZone = the zone index, inflictingSubsystemID = the bin (the message-
manager explosion-bundling key, ENTITY3.h's own NOTE), printing the binary's
exact "ammo explosion damaging <zoneName>" @0050df61.
Port shape: Mech::AmmoExplosionFanOut (mechdmg.cpp) behind a databinding bridge;
guarded deviation: zoneCount==0 warns instead of the binary's unguarded divide.
CriticalChain/CriticalEntry stand-ins DELETED from mechrecon.hpp.
VERIFIED LIVE (BT_BAYTEST hook = message 1, the crit-induced arm channel):
scratchpad/baytest.py : arm -> 10s -> "20 rounds x 35 = 700 (type 2)" ->
"ammo explosion damaging dz_ltorso" -> zone cascade -> mech DESTROYED
(authentic death list).
scratchpad/baypurge.py: arm -> eject-hold purge -> "bay fire EXTINGUISHED
(bin empty)", no detonation.
scratchpad/sim3.py : the HEAT route arms organically in combat (overheated
AFC100), detonates "11 x 25 = 275 (type 1)" split across dz_larm + dz_lgun.
BAYBOOM matchlog record added for MP field forensics.
FIX-OF-THE-FIX (caught by the sim3 regression, would have shipped a crash):
MechSubsystem's ReconDamageZone proxy puts structureLevel at OFFSET 0 -- which
ALIASES THE REAL DamageZone's VTABLE POINTER (the private zone is `new
DamageZone`, mechsub.cpp:154; mechsub.hpp:260 documents the alias). My first
DistributeCriticalHit kept the old body's `damageZone->structureLevel = 1.0f`
and OVERWROTE THE ZONE'S VPTR with 0x3F800000; the respawn sweep's virtual
SetGraphicState (vtable+0xC) then called through it -> AV at 0x3f80000c in
RespawnRepair, one frame after a bay-fire death. ALL EIGHT proxy-view sites in
mechsub.cpp swept to the engine view (((DamageZone*)damageZone)->damageLevel
@0x158) -- including two silently-wrong LIVE readers: GetStatusFlags (vptr as
float -> always "intact") and ApplyDamageAndMeasure (the crit cascade's
measure). Ruled out first by evidence: the weapon->bin stamps were all clean
(six stamps, all classID 0xbcb, logged).
#47 (half 1 -- the FIRE ICON): BallisticWeaponCluster::Execute @004c9a38 reads
bin+0x18C = cookOffArmed into the btefire.pcc TwoState, and while armed computes
(Now - cookOffTime)/ticksPerSecond -- the COOK-OFF COUNTDOWN -- into the numeric
beside it. The old reconstruction misread 0x18C as "the reload state" and
bridged the icon to BTAmmoBinFeeding, so it blinked on every feed and never lit
on a bay fire (RajelAran: "it doesn't"). Now driven by the
BTAmmoBinCookOffArmed/CookOffTime complete-type bridges. [T2 -- the data path
is rig-verified; the pixels await the next live session.]
#47 (half 2 -- the ENG-BUTTON FLASH): fully mapped, deliberately NOT built this
session. The authored data SHIPS (BTL4.RES carries exactly one type-31
GaugeAlarmStream); the chain is alarm SetLevel -> gauge-watcher socket ->
Renderer msg 7 -> GaugeAlarmManager::Activate @00448d00 (T0) -> the BTL4
override @004cc148..@004cc2fc (btl4galm.cpp's provenance note claiming "no
override body exists" is WRONG -- corrected in-file) -> LampManager::FindLamp
@00444c80 -> Lamp::SetAlertState @00444e64 (flash counter) -> the L4 flush
@00474e94 emitting flashFast states 0x37/0x13 (== T0 L4LAMP.cpp:234-239).
Missing: the override bodies, the gauge-watcher sender, the aux-button lamps.
3-piece plan in context/open-questions.md.
Also logged: HandleMessage is vtable slot 8/9 in the binary but NON-virtual
across 10 reconstruction classes (bit the BT_BAYTEST hook; typed call used, gap
documented in open-questions).
KB: combat-damage.md (the full cook-off section), decomp-reference.md (the
cluster addresses + the GaugeAlarm/lamp map + BT_BAYTEST env), gauges-hud.md

Issue #42: doubled MFD joystick -- restore the dropped MoveToAbsolute(0,0)
The binary's ConfigMapGauge dirty-redraw (@004c6f1c) is SetColor(0xFF) -> MoveToAbsolute(0,0) -> DrawBitMapOpaque; the transcription dropped the reposition. The FIRST draw worked by accident (fresh view cursor at the origin); every forced redraw -- the weapon panel's DISPLAY round-trip (main -> ENG DATA -> main, BecameActive sets dirty) -- blitted btjoy.pcc at the state-lamp loop's leftover cursor (0xc, 0x55), painting an offset ghost joystick over the original on every MFD. Repro pinned live by the operator (initial draw correct; doubles on the DISPLAY round-trip, every MFD). LIVE-VERIFIED fixed by the operator: round-trips redraw cleanly. NOT a regression -- present since the joystick went live (89b4f53; bisect-confirmed). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Gauges: trigger-config joystick is LIVE -- @004c6ee0 is LinkToEntity, not SetColor
The weapon panel's btjoy trigger-config display (ConfigMapGauge) never rendered because the reconstruction labelled @004c6ee0 as "SetColor(int)" and, finding no caller, concluded the gauge was authentically dormant (task #6), gating it behind a BT_CONFIGMAP dev env. The user challenged this (the PROGRAM/TRIGGER CONFIG button implies the display visualizes your config). Re-verification found the old analysis failed twice: the "no caller" search looked for direct calls to a VIRTUAL, and its slot math used the wrong vtable copy. The real ConfigMapGauge vtable @0051a1b8, matched against the T0 GaugeBase virtual roster (GAUGE.h), pins @004c6ee0 at slot 9 (+0x24) == GaugeBase::LinkToEntity, and @0x94 is the linkedEntity -- the Execute gate is "not yet linked", not "disabled". The engine broadcasts LinkToEntity(viewpointEntity) to every gauge at viewpoint bind (APP.cpp:1277 -> GaugeRenderer::LinkToEntity GAUGREND.cpp:3011), arming the gate -- the joystick DOES render in the shipped game, showing per-trigger mapping state (solid = mapped, matching the DOSBox reference). Port fix: SetColor(int color) -> LinkToEntity(Entity*), color -> linkedEntity, BT_CONFIGMAP dev enable deleted (the authentic path lights it). Render-verified with no env override: the joystick + mapped-trigger lamp draw on weapon panels. KB swept per the correction mandate: gauges-hud.md, decomp-reference.md, open-questions.md, GAUGE_COMPOSITE.md, VEHICLE_SUBSYSTEMS.md. Gauges: ammo count stencils out of the fire-ready dot (BallisticWeaponCluster)
The base-page missile/round count sat on the fire-ready "dot" (the cluster image blitted green when charged) as green digits on an opaque black box -- a messy dark rectangle punched into the solid green dot. The binary swaps the ammo count's colours with the dot state. Verified from the decomp: BallisticWeaponCluster overrides DrawWarningLamp (@004c9b50) -- it chains the base (@004c932c, which blits the dot in on-colour 0xff / off-colour 0) and then calls the ammo NumericDisplayInteger's SetColors: dot ABSENT -> SetColors(0, 0xff) == green digits on black dot PRESENT -> SetColors(0xff, 0) == BLACK digits cut out of the green dot so the count is always legible (a stencil against the solid dot -- the same black-on-green look as the loop/generator squares). SetColors ForceUpdate()s the numeric so it repaints over the freshly drawn dot. The port had only the base WeaponCluster::DrawWarningLamp (non-virtual, no swap), so the count stayed green-on-black and clashed with the green dot. Made DrawWarningLamp virtual and added the BallisticWeaponCluster override. Render-verified (STREAK "0024" now black-cut-out of the solid dot); energy weapons (no ammo count) unaffected. Both builds clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Gauges: convert generator-voltage bar to named-member bridge
The eng-page generator-voltage bar (evolt.pcc, ScalarBarGauge @004c721c) and the MyomerCluster seek-voltage graph were fed by GeneratorVoltageConnection, which walked the same dead path as the generator-letter lamp: ResolveLink(AttributePointerOf(subsystem,"InputVoltage")) -> read resolved +0x1DC == Generator::outputVoltage. The BT_DEV_GAUGES audio attribute rows shifted the chained attribute ids so AttributePointerOf no longer lands on voltageSource@0x1D0 -> the bar always read 0. New BTGeneratorVoltage(subsystem) bridge (powersub.cpp) reads the NAMED member via PoweredSubsystem::ResolveVoltageSource()->Generator::MeasuredVoltage() (outputVoltage@0x1DC), bypassing the attribute table -- same pattern as BTPowerSourceFrame/BTCoolingLoopFrame. Both GeneratorVoltageConnection callers (the ScalarBarGauge param + the MyomerCluster seekValue) now pass subsystem_in. [voltfeed]-verified: Myomers -> 10000V from GeneratorD (was 0 on the dead path). Both pod + glass builds clean. Eng-page render awaiting live playtest. Gauges: fix blank per-weapon loop/generator lamps (4A/1B/5D boxes)
The SubsystemCluster per-weapon MFD panels render two image-strip lamps in the TEMP/STATUS area: the cooling-loop number (btploop, 1..6) and the generator letter (btpbus, A..D). Both drew as completely empty boxes. Three stacked databinding bugs, all now fixed: 1. Color drop (btl4gau2.cpp): AnimatedSubsystemLamp/AnimatedSourceLamp ctors dropped the bg/fg color params the binary passes (bg=0xff,fg=0, same as the neighboring temp bar) and hardcoded 0,0 -> OneOfSeveral:: Execute did SetColor(0)+DrawBitMapOpaque(0), i.e. black-on-black. Restored 0xff,0 (verified vs @004c70a4 / caller SubsystemCluster @004c8140). 2. Shadow-field trap (btl4gau2.hpp, gotcha #2): both lamp classes re-declared `int selected;` while already inheriting it from OneOfSeveral (@0xAC). The CoolingLoop/PowerSource connection wrote the derived shadow copy while OneOfSeveral::Execute read the base @0xAC (always 0) -> every lamp stuck on frame 0 ("OFF"). Removed the redeclarations so &selected binds the inherited member. Loop numbers now render (verified: PPC->4, Myomers->5, ERMLaser->1/6, etc.). 3. Attribute-table shift (powersub.cpp + btl4gau2.cpp, gotcha #8): the generator-letter lamp resolved its source via ResolveLink(AttributePointerOf(subsystem,"InputVoltage")), but the BT_DEV_GAUGES audio attribute rows shifted the chained attribute ids so AttributePointerOf no longer landed on voltageSource@0x1D0 -> the link always resolved to 0 (OFF) even though the master PoweredSubsystem ctor DID bind voltageSource to its Generator. New BTPowerSourceFrame bridge reads the NAMED member via PoweredSubsystem::ResolveVoltageSource() and returns Generator::generatorNumber (@0x1E0), bypassing the attribute table -- the same pattern as the BTCoolingLoopFrame fix. Generator letters now render (verified: PPC_1->GeneratorA="A", Myomers-> GeneratorD="D", SRM6->GeneratorB="B"). Result: the "4 A / 1 B / 5 D" boxes render with both the loop number and generator letter, matching the reference. Kept BT_LOOP_LOG-gated [loopfeed]/[busfeed] feed diagnostics; both pod + glass builds clean. Awaiting live playtest verification. SeekVoltageGraph: full reconstruction -- the eng-page POWER graph + top-box eraser (Gitea #11)
The #10 audit's one WRONG: the port Execute was a bring-up no-op, so the emitter/myomer engineering pages never erased their top data box -> stale sibling-page ghosts on the shared Eng bit-plane (SYSTEM 10 PPC showing the Streak ammo box, etc). Fix two Jul-16 regressions: BT_DEV_GAUGES crash + -net dead controls mapper
Both surfaced today (dormant ~1 day) the moment the pod launch flags
(BT_DEV_GAUGES=1 BT_START_INSIDE=1, tools/mp_launch.sh) were used to drive in
multiplayer -- which made the same-day paint change look guilty. Confirmed on
the pre-paint build too; the trigger was the Jul-16 audio attribute work.
1) BT_DEV_GAUGES crash (cdb: CoolingLoopConnection::Update, ~15s in as the gauge
builds lazily). The dev-gauge cooling-loop lamp reached the cooling master by
RAW attribute index -- GetAttributePointer(3) + *(master+0x1d4). The audio

Logs each SubsystemCluster::Execute's drawn CurrentTemperature vs the degradation/ failure thresholds + drawState. Confirmed (BT_DEV_GAUGES + madcat + autofire): the per-subsystem temperature bars build lazily on the engineering MFD screen, execute live with animating values (weapons heat toward the 1000K degradation line = the jam threshold) and correct 1000/2000 markers, drawState=0 online. Fire VISUALS wave: the authored firesmoke sheet, vertex-alpha effect cards, the case-4 wreck dressing
The "fireballs like the demo vids" arc, decomp/content-grounded end to end,
plus the live-play UX batch verified over the same sessions:
FIRESMOKE SHEET (the PFX fireball fix): every firesmokeN_scr_tex in BTFX.VMF
maps the SAME 64x64 tileable noise image bintA (variants differ only in SCROLL
rate) and firesmoke1_mtl colours it through the "fiery" ramp (0.3,0.1,0.1)->
(0.9,0.7,0.3). The particle layer now bakes ramp(lum(bintA)) as its sprite
colour (noise detail in alpha) and SCROLLS it at firesmoke1's authored rate
via a texture-transform; the port's radial soft-edge mask moved to a second
CLAMPed stage so the WRAPPED scroll rolls flame through the sprite without
scrolling the edge away. Old grit x radial bake kept as the no-BINTA fallback.
Impact hits, damage-band smoke and death booms all ride this layer.
AUTHORED TEXTURE SCROLL in the model path: the BMF TEXTURE records carry
SPECIAL " SCROLL u0 v0 du dv" (tag 0x2037); the draw path always supported
per-op scrolling (SetTextureScrolling) but the BGF loader never parsed it, so
every scrolling material rendered frozen. Wired TexRef -> MatInfo -> batch ->
L4TEXOP.doScroll: the flame cards (flamebig/fire5) now roll fire noise.
VERTEX-ALPHA EFFECT CARDS (the "twisted drill bit of fire" fix): FLAMEBIG's
verts carry authored float RGBA -- white-hot base (1.0,0.99,0.97) -> dark-red
tip fading to alpha -0.2 (the DPL clamp convention). The loader kept a flat
batch colour and drew it OPAQUE = a solid orange spike. Corpus sweep: exactly
14 shipped BGFs carry vertex alpha, ALL effect cards (flames, MUZFLASH,
EXDISK_A/B/C, TMST_A/B/C, beam models, DECLOUDS). Such batches now keep the
authored per-vertex gradient and route to the alpha-blend pass, unlit,
colour = texture x gradient, alpha = the vertex fade; sky objects excluded
(drawAsSky + alphaTest passes NEITHER pass filter -- DECLOUDS stays in the
sky pass). MUZFLASH/EXDISK render correctly for free when the muzzle-model
work lands.
WRECK DRESSING (the 1996 ExplosionScripts case-4 transcription): pieces spawn
HIDDEN and reveal 0.25s after the boom (the InstanceSwitch delay, behind the
dnboom flash); flamebig hangs over the pile, Y-BILLBOARDED at the camera
(SetOffsetYaw + a camera-pos getter -- the dpl_SetDCSReorientAxes analog);
the MakeDCSFall settle arms at the reveal with the two authored rates (hulk/
debris -0.025 t^2, fires -0.01 t^2 -- the flames ride above the sinking pile
and die with it at burial). EMPTY-PLACEHOLDER hulk guard: THRDBR.BGF is a
153-byte zero-geometry stub that "loads fine" -- vertex-count check now routes
it to the gendbr fallback (a Thor wreck was invisible). Hulk content census
recorded: AVADBR==MADDBR==VULDBR geometry (palette-only prefix diffs),
RAPDBR==SNDDBR==STIDBR byte-identical -- wreck variety is materials + the
dressing, not unique piles.
LIVE-PLAY BATCH: muzzle resolve uses the named segmentIndex (raw +0xdc read
was layout garbage); forward launch frame (authored MuzzleVelocity +Z vs the
mech's -Z facing); dock-bottom single window (gauge strip appended below the
world viewport, 1100x600 default, BT_DEV_GAUGES_WINDOW=1 restores the separate
window); portrait sec surface unrotated CW; ammo counters live via typed
bridges (BTAmmoBinCountPtr/BTAmmoBinFeeding/BTWeaponAmmoBin -- raw bin+0x180
and a hand-rolled link walk were garbage); fourth fire key ('4' = Pinky);
panel/arc probes de-aliased (%61 prime).
KB: rendering.md (vertex-alpha card family + scroll), combat-damage.md (hulk
census + THRDBR stub), gauges-hud.md (ammo bridges).

MP live-play wave: collision economy, missiles, radar transform, panel polarity, comm ticker
The interactive 2-node playtest wave -- every fix decomp-grounded and live-verified: COLLISION ECONOMY (the ram one-shot): StaticBounce mutates worldLinearVelocity per contact and ProcessCollisionList walks EVERY touched solid per frame; with 2007 terrain-as-solids the reflections compounded x4-x40 within one frame and a walking bump one-shot a pristine mech for 112,375 pts (62-pt authentic economy). Fix: frameEntryWorldVelocity restore per contact (damage always priced at the real approach speed -- all the binary's physics ever saw); Mech::Reset zeroes the mover motion (respawn = teleport); [collide-tx]/[mp-hdlr] telemetry. Gotcha #16 (engine-facility drift class). MISSILES: peer-visible salvos (the launcher record extension carries a salvo counter + aim point; ForceUpdate actually enqueues it -- the dirty flag alone never serialized), the authentic arc (authored MuzzleVelocity vector + the Seeker's 200m/0.1/300 loft + gain-4 steering, decoded from @004beae4/@004bef78), world-impact bursts (rounds detonate on cave geometry instead of phasing through), contact-only damage (flight-cap expiry = fizzle, no more teleport damage), live re-lead, and ballistic (unguided) shells for autocannons. projweap's stale BTPushProjectile extern (the /FORCE signature trap, gotcha #6 corollary) crashed the Avatar's first AFC100 shot -- fixed + sweep rule recorded. RADAR: two transcription bugs made the scope permanently empty -- FUN_0040b244 is the affine INVERSE (not a copy) and FUN_0040adec writes ONLY the 3x3 rotation (never the translation); worldToView now Invert(view) built rotation-first. CulturalIcons sorted out of the moving grid (the phantom red pips were map props), visible-radius culls on all three draw passes, live pip verified at |delta| x ppm px. Gotcha #17 (verify the FUN_ body, not its call shape). WEAPON PANELS (the frozen-dial hunt): the binary's *(subsystem+0x40) means FAILED -- the recon's 'operating' name was backwards, inverting the destroyed-X lamps, the panel look, the children enable and the ready-lamp gate (which had NEVER executed). Polarity chain corrected end-to-end (failedState, fed by real damage saturation). Root cause of the freezes: MFD page-mode gating -- the dev composite shows ALL pages at once, so off-page dials legitimately stopped; under BT_DEV_GAUGES the 15 page-plane bits stay active (the exclusive secondary trio untouched). The SEH gauge guard now names its kills; repaint-heal resets the incremental arc after panel repaints; [panel]/[arc] probes added. COMM/SCORE: MessageBoard LIVE (the engine already shipped the whole Player__StatusMessage queue; wired the binary's one producer -- the kill branch, victim's name, 6s -- plus the consumer bridge and a lazy source bind); MP DEATHS counted via the observed-death tally (each node scores every pilot from locally observed events, the same model as the KILLS credit) and the -2/-1 engine seed clamped for display. DEV UX: node-tagged window titles (-net port), gauge panel reworked (1320x480, true 4:3 MFD cells, the portrait secondary UNROTATED upright, linear filtering, BT_GAUGE_SCALE), fixed close spawns via BT_SPAWN_XZ, Boreas flies an Avatar (first second-chassis live outing). Cockpit: the CONFIG-MODE weapon-regrouping session + the live-play fire fixes (tasks #6+#11)
TASK #6 -- the pod's in-cockpit weapon regrouping, fully reconstructed and live-verified (hold-configure -> tap fire button -> toggle membership -> release-commit): - MechWeapon handlers id 9 ConfigureMappables @004b9550 / id 10 ChooseButton @004b95b8 (binary table @0x511860; the old "Myomers fns" mislabel swept) + the GetMessageHandlers() accessor chain through Emitter/ProjectileWeapon/ MissileLauncher/GAUSS/PPC (empty per-class sets swallowed dispatch). - Mapper vtable truth: +0x38 EnterConfiguration / +0x3C ExitConfiguration / +0x40,+0x44 AddOrErase evt/dir. No "secondary vtable @0050f498", no "CreateTemporaryEventMappings" virtual (RP-name drift; swept incl CLASSMAP). L4 Enter/Exit rebuilt complete: StartMappableButtonsConfigure (the NonMapping 0x10000 <-> Mapping 0x8000 mode flip + the gauge's active-weapon latch) + the held-button re-arm + the 4 fire-button temp maps; only the RIO mapper implements the toggle (Thrustmaster no-ops = can't regroup). - MechSubsystem +0xE8/+0xEC corrected to controlDestination/controlMessageID (ex hostEntity/subsystemId2 mislabel); MechWeapon ctor defaults the destination to &fireImpulse (@004b99a8). - ConfigMapGauge state loop reconstructed (PE-recovered DAT_00518eb4 table; buttonGroup GetMapState sampler -- the "needs ModeManager" guard rationale was wrong). Finding [T1]: the shipped binary NEVER enables this gauge (no SetColor caller) -- authentically dormant; BT_CONFIGMAP=1 is the dev enable. - Dev harness: HOLD 'G' opens the session (BT_CONFIG_SLOT picks the weapon); BT_CONFIG_TEST scripts a headless verify. @004afbc4 corrected to its real Fail-trap body (the guessed AddOrErase(NULL) body would corrupt groups). - Bonus [T1]: the binary MechWeapon ATTRIBUTE table has ELEVEN entries (PercentDone..WeaponState) -- "TriggerState is the only one" was wrong. TASK #11 -- the user-reported live-play regressions (both real bugs): - PHANTOM FIRE: the mech4 bring-up shot block painted an explosion at the victim on its OWN 0.3s cadence whenever fire was held -- desynced once the authentic recharges landed. Retired (the real impact visual flows from each discharge via the messmgr SubmitExplosion). - WEAPON BRICKING (the "cuts out" bug): the Loading->Loaded snap window (+-0.01 around seekV) assumes the pod's LOCKED 60 fps; one port dt-spike jumps it, the byte-verified >1.0 clamp (_DAT_004ba830=0) zeroes readiness, and the weapon sticks in Loading at level ~10000 forever (observed live). Fixed with pod-frame (1/60s) sub-stepping of the binary's own Loading tick -- also fixes the I^2R integral over-heating generators on big steps. NEW GOTCHA CLASS recorded: reconstruction-gotchas #12 (frame-pacing trap). - Duty-cycle measured (max-rate autofire): generators equilibrate in the degradation band (recharge stretch ~3.5-4.4x), the FailureHeat breaker never trips solo, PPCs sustain ~11.8-damage full-charge fire. The slow kill pacing and recharge gaps are the AUTHENTIC heat economy; the pilot's counters (this regrouping UI, generator reassignment, coolant valves) are the reconstruction queue. gauge-complete P4f: PrepEngrScreen reconstructed + registered -> 12 engineering-screen label overlays build
The "prepEngr" cockpit primitive (the per-engineering-screen static label overlay,
12 CFG calls at L4GAUGE.CFG:4595-4759) was a MISLABELED stub (base Gauge, an Execute
override, mech/screenNumber SWAPPED) with no methodDescription -> parse-SKIPPED, none built.
Reconstructed byte-verified (ctor @4c7bf0, BecameActive @4c7e48, Make @4c7b30; vtable
0051a06c). THREE corrections vs the stub (decode workflow + vtables.tsv proof):
(1) base = GraphicGaugeBackground, not Gauge -- vtable-identical shape to the engine's
BackgroundBitmap (only dtor + BecameActive overridden); (2) the overridden slot is
BecameActive (a paint-on-activation), NOT Execute -- GraphicGaugeBackground has no Execute
virtual, so the Gauge::Execute->Fail->abort hazard doesn't apply; (3) screenNumber@0x6C /
mech@0x70 were swapped. sizeof 0x90.
BecameActive walks the mech roster (databinding-safe GetSubsystemCount/GetSubsystem +
BTGetSubsystemAuxScreen bridge, like VehicleSubSystems::Make), finds the subsystem whose
auxScreenNumber == this screen (1..12), and paints the screen-number numeric + subsystem
label + type-specific label cells dispatched on GetClassID (Sensor/Myomers/Emitter/PPC/
Projectile/Missile/GaussRifle). methodDescription = 9 params (mode, screen, 7 .pcc names).
Registered in BTL4MethodDescription[]. Two raw subsystem reads (heat-sink #, +0x224 label)
are guarded fail-soft best-efforts (marked; the aux-screen bridge label64 substitutes).
VERIFIED: the skip list drops from {prepEngr x12, messageBoard} to just {messageBoard} --
all 12 prepEngr gauges build; no screen-range/crash; boot+sim+combat run; gauge composite
renders identically (COOLANT 300/77, clusters, radar all un-regressed). The prepEngr labels
paint on the Eng (ModeMFD*Eng*) screens, not the default composite view.

gauge-complete P4a: heat-leaf data fixes (radar heat-degradation authentic)
The gauge-complete-decode workflow found the "deep heat-leaf byte-exact re-base" is STALE -- the leaf layout already shipped byte-exact (alarm-unification/P7), and the real work is a small misidentified-field data fix (highest value, lowest risk): - Sensor radarPercent read the INHERITED heatEnergy (~1.3e7) -> hugely negative -> needed a bring-up guard forcing it to 1.0. The binary (@004b1c4c:1829) reads *(this[0x38]+0x158) = the subsystem's OWN DamageZone::damageLevel [0,1] (0 intact .. 1 destroyed). Fixed: radarPercent = RadarBaseline - GetSubsystemDamageLevel(); guard DELETED (damageLevel is engine-clamped). So the radar authentically degrades with sensor structural damage (RadarBaseline-damage, x0.5 on DegradationHeat, 0 on Failure). - New databinding-SAFE accessor MechSubsystem::GetSubsystemDamageLevel()/Set... reads the ENGINE DamageZone::damageLevel NAMED member (NOT the ReconDamageZone proxy, whose offset-0 structureLevel aliases the vtable ptr as a float = garbage). - HeatSink::HandleMessage msg==1: same misidentification -> SetSubsystemDamageLevel(0.5) (was linkedSinks->heatEnergy=0.5, wrong object+field). - MyomerCluster seek lamp: subsys+0x800 (OOB for 0x358 Myomers) -> currentSeekVoltageIndex @0x320 (the Emitter+0x3f0 analog; INFERRED -- ctor not in the assert-anchored export). - numericSpeed (~225 vs 61.5): verified NOT A BUG (NumericDisplaySpeed applies x3.6; the feed is correct u/s) -- closed, no code. No layout change (already byte-exact); pure data-read retargets. Verified DBASE+dev gauges: no crash, combat un-regressed (TARGET DESTROYED). (radarPercent degrade is only OBSERVABLE once per-subsystem damage routes to each engine DamageZone -- a separate task; today the sensor is undamaged so radarPercent = full 1.0, which is correct.) gauge wave P2d: GeneratorCluster un-gated -- the 4 generator panels render
Root-caused the P2c abort with a cdb attach to the frozen abort dialog: the stack
was Gauge::Execute (GAUGE.cpp:598) -> abort, via GuardedExecute <- Update <-
ProcessOneActiveGauge. The engine base Gauge::Execute is Fail("not overridden")
-> abort, so an ACTIVE container that doesn't override Execute aborts by design;
GuardedExecute's SEH can't catch an abort(). The decode's "GeneratorCluster
overrides ONLY the dtor / renders via its children" was wrong -- the 1995 base
Gauge::Execute was a no-op, the 2007 WinTesla engine's aborts, so the container
MUST override Execute (the sibling SubsystemCluster does).
FIX: give GeneratorCluster the two container overrides (mirroring SubsystemCluster):
- BecameActive() -- blit the panel's static background pixmap (DrawPixelMap8) and,
by overriding the default, DON'T self-inactivate so the panel stays active.
- Execute() -- no-op (the 5 self-registered child gauges draw the dynamic content;
the override exists only to avoid the base Fail->abort).
Re-registered in BTL4MethodDescription[]. Verified DBASE+dev gauges: all 4
generator panels (A/B/C/D) render -- blue OutputVoltage bars (the @004c72ac
ScalarBarGauge Scalar* variant), labels, status lamps -- 0 "BecameActive not
defined" warnings, NO abort, combat un-regressed (TARGET DESTROYED). Phase 2 is
now COMPLETE (4/4 widgets: LeakGauge, VertNormalSlider, PilotList, GeneratorCluster).

gauge wave P2c: GeneratorCluster reconstructed + infra (gated -- parent aborts)
Reconstructed the 4th unbuilt widget (the 4 generator engineering panels, buttons 9-12) + its companions, but left it UNREGISTERED pending a runtime-abort fix: - Generator OutputVoltage attribute table (powersub) -> outputVoltage@0x1DC, chained to HeatSink's dense index (temps already reach it). Correct + reusable. - ScalarBarGauge @004c72ac plain-Scalar variant (btl4gau2) -- the DIRECT-Scalar* bar the GeneratorCluster voltage bar needs (the existing @004c721c takes a resolved source object). Correct + harmless. - GeneratorCluster Make/ctor/dtor + 15-param methodDescription reconstructed from part_014.c:891-1013 (replacing the prose + placeholder Make + the bogus DAT pool); builds the 5 children (temp bar / voltage bar / leak wipe / 2 lamps). Header fixed to the binary ctor param order (secondaryColor@0x94, +_reserved0xB0 -> sizeof 0xB4). ChildRate forward-declared. ⚠ REGISTRATION GATED (commented out in BTL4MethodDescription[]): registering it aborts at runtime -- the 4 panels build (the 4 "BecameActive not defined" warnings fire) then abort(). ISOLATED to the PARENT lifecycle: the abort PERSISTS with all 5 children nulled; there are no pure virtuals; Execute is SEH-guarded under BT_DEV_GAUGES so the fault is in the unguarded ctor/lifecycle path. The sibling SubsystemCluster overrides BecameActive/Execute/TestInstance whereas the decode has GeneratorCluster overriding ONLY the dtor -- that "inherits only the dtor" claim is the prime suspect. Deferred; the 3 other P2 widgets (LeakGauge/VertNormalSlider/PilotList) ship clean. Verified: unregistered -> parse-skips -> no abort; combat un-regressed (DESTROYED), 0 crashes. vehicleSubSystems: reconstruct the stubbed connection helpers from decomp
Replace the return-0 stubs with the real functions: - ResolveLink (FUN_00417ab4) = SubsystemConnection::Resolve (two-level deref of the plug's bound link); an unbound plug resolves to 0, the authentic no-source branch. - FindLinkedSubsystem (FUN_0041bf44) = GetAttributePointer(index) via the engine Simulation attribute-index system (the cooling-loop master at slot 3). - IsGeneratorDerived (FUN_0041a1a4) = the real IsDerivedFrom(PoweredSubsystem ClassDerivations 0x50f4bc) via a new powersub.cpp bridge BTIsPoweredSubsystem (shared with the aux-screen filter) -> the generator stateLamp now builds. So the cooling/power/voltage connections resolve real data when the plug is bound, instead of always reading 0. Build clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

vehicleSubSystems Phase 2: authentic aux-screen assignment -> panels build
The engineering-screen cluster panels now build for each subsystem on its real aux-screen position. Two pieces: 1. Aux-screen bridge (powersub.cpp BTGetSubsystemAuxScreen): the assignment lives on PoweredSubsystem (auxScreenNumber/Placement/Label, resource +0x104/108/10C) which our ctor already populates -- but the reconstructed heat-leaf branch is NOT byte-exact, so the Make's raw sub[0x1dc]/[0x1e0]/[0x1e4] reads were garbage (0xCDCDCDCD). The bridge casts through the real PoweredSubsystem type + returns the NAMED fields (and is the FUN_0041a1a4/0x50f4bc type filter). Make + Subsystem Cluster now read via the bridge. 2. Reconstruct the 4 child gauges the clusters build that were declared-but-undefined (only VertTwoPartBar/OneOfSeveral/PixInt existed): HorizTwoPartBar (full, mirrors Vert), OneOfSeveralInt (ctor), OneOfSeveralStates (ctor + BecameActive + State Connection @004c3324), BitMapInverseWipe/LeakGauge (full) + SeekVoltageGraph's Execute/BecameActive/dtor -- their /FORCE-stubbed ctors were segfaulting when a cluster built them. VERIFIED (BT_DEV_GAUGES + BT_VSS_LOG): 7 authentic panels build -- Sensor(scr5, qsensors) HeatSinkCluster, Myomers(scr6,qmyomers) MyomerCluster, PPC(scr1,10) + Emitter(scr4,8,7) Energy/Ballistic clusters -- with real labels + placements, 0 crashes, combat un-regressed. vehicleSubSystems: verify Phase 1 end-to-end + confirm the Phase-2 blocker
Add a BT_VSS_LOG diagnostic (Make entry + per-subsystem classID/auxScreen dump + the ConfigureForModel path). Verified under BT_DEV_GAUGES: the gauge renderer builds, ConfigureForModel(Init) runs bhk1Init, and VehicleSubSystems::Make is called with the full 33-subsystem roster -- the dispatcher iterates every subsystem and its classID switch resolves the displayable types (0xBC3 Sensor, 0xBC6 Myomers, 0xBC8/0xBD4 Emitter/PPC, 0xBCD/0xBD0 Proj/Missile). CONFIRMED (empirically) the Phase-2 blocker: subsystem[0x1dc] (the aux-screen position the Make gates on) reads 0xCDCDCDCD (uninitialized) / garbage for the displayable subsystems -> every panel hits the "Illegal aux screen position" skip, so nothing renders yet. Phase 2 = populate the aux-screen field from the subsystem resource. Combat remains un-regressed (the skip path is inert). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

vehicleSubSystems Phase 1: reconstruct + register the cluster-panel family
Reconstruct the whole engineering-screen (MFD) subsystem cluster-panel system in btl4gau2 (from the Ghidra decomp of BTL4OPT.EXE) and register the vehicleSubSystems config primitive: - Sub-gauges: AnimatedSubsystemLamp/AnimatedSourceLamp (OneOfSeveral + cooling/ power connections), ScalarBarGauge (BarGraphBitMapScalar + generator-voltage connection), ConfigMapGauge, plus the 3 file-private GaugeConnection classes (@004c3134/31ec/3288 samplers). - SubsystemCluster base (ctor builds ~11 child gauges across the MFD + engineering ports; Execute/dtor/frame-draw/enable helpers) + the 5 subclasses HeatSink/ Myomer/Weapon/Energy/Ballistic (ctors + Executes). - VehicleSubSystems::Make dispatcher (@004cbaf0): per-subsystem factory keyed on classID (HeatSink 0xBC3 / Myomer 0xBC6 / Energy 0xBC8,0xBD4 / Ballistic 0xBCD,0xBD0), placed via the 12-row aux-screen geometry table, + registered in BTL4MethodDescription[]. SAFE + gated: gauges only build under BT_DEV_GAUGES/pod, and until Phase 2 populates the subsystem aux-screen field (subsystem[0x1dc]) the Make hits its "aux screen = zero" skip -> combat untouched. Two minor children deferred as marked NULLs (SegmentArc270 recharge dial + BitMapInverseWipeScalar eject wipe -- their ctors are btl4gaug placeholders). Raw-offset subsystem reads (0x1dc/0x1e0/ 0x1e4/0x31c/0x334/0x364/0x43c...) marked BEST-EFFORT pending Phase 2. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

One top-level CMake builds munga_engine lib + bt410_l4 game lib + btl4.exe.
All paths relativized (186 fwd shims + ~437 CMake abs paths -> repo-relative);
DXSDK is the one external, overridable via -DDXSDK. Verified: builds to a
byte-identical 2.27MB exe and runs combat (TARGET DESTROYED, 0 crashes) against
the bundled content.
